Local elections in Britain: a test for Sunak's leadership

The leadership of the Conservative Party has been far behind the polls from the opposition Labor Party under the leadership of Kira Starmer for several months. According to Thursday, May 2, local elections are taking place in the UK, which can put Prime Minister Richa Snak in a difficult situation if conservatives lose a significant number of seats.

Thousands of politicians compete for more than 2,500 places in local councils, 25 seats in the London Assembly and ten mayors. Voters can vote from 7am to 22:00 local time. The results are expected to start coming on the morning of Friday, May 3, and vote count in some regions will last until Sunday, May 5.

Some analysts assume that Snak party may lose more than 400 out of 900 seats in the local councils it controls. However, the subsequent fate of the Prime Minister may depend on the results of only two candidates for the posts of the mayors of Tis-Welly and West Midland, Ben Houichen and Andy Street.

In recent years, conservatives have been defeated several times in the elections from Labor and Liberal Democrats. Labor is actively striving for winning key polling stations in Midland and in northern England, which can serve as a harbinger of future general elections that Snak should hold over the next nine months.
