The Ministry of Health has determined the need for recovery of medical institutions

The Ukrainian health care system has suffered tremendous losses in more than three years of the war, which was resolved by Russia. According to the Ministry of Health, the total losses from the destruction of medical institutions amounted to $ 19.4 billion.

In particular, the greatest damage is recorded in Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson regions where the fighting was most intense. In general, as of February 2025, 1982 medical facilities were damaged, and another 301 were completely destroyed.

Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko stressed the need for significant investments for the restoration of medical institutions and implementation of the health care system development strategy by 2030. This plan not only involves the restoration of medical institutions, but also the integration of reforms so that the health care system becomes more resistant to future challenges.

In addition to physical damage, Russian shelling also caused significant losses in the emergency medical fleet: 237 cars were damaged, 273 were destroyed and 80 were captured.

Given the scale of destruction, the Ministry of Health sets the main task of attracting investments to restore medical institutions, including hospitals, outpatient clinics and polyclinics that were most affected by the war. The strategy by 2030 implies that these investments will be effectively distributed to ensure the fastest recovery of important objects.

In 2025, Ukraine, despite numerous difficulties, aims to create a more efficient, stable and affordable health care system capable of functioning under constant threats and challenges.
