US peace talks are looking for consent from Russia after Ukraine's step

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the course of peace negotiations on the end of Russia against Ukraine, noting that the parties became closer to peace, but a lot of work ahead. He expressed his thoughts on March 17 in an interview with Fox News Radio, which was published by the US State Department.

"I think we saw that we were closer - not close to peace. I mean that in my opinion there is something to work on. But we became closer than they were two weeks ago or than six months ago," Rubio said.

He stressed that the war in Ukraine has been going on for three years, and the US President seeks its completion.

"I think everyone has to agree that this war needs to be finished. And the question is how it does not start again. So, the main plan was whether we will be able to force these guys to stop shooting each other, sit down and agree on how to put this land forever. It was the purpose of the president."

According to him, last week, during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, "good obligations" from the Ukrainian delegation were received: they agreed to stop the shooting and freeze the situation as it is, to further discuss the ways of the final termination of the conflict.

Now the US is striving to get "something like" from the Russian side. Rubio called the productive meeting of Special Support Vitcoff with Putin last week.

"It was not a waste of time, we returned with some information, but we will find out more tomorrow (March 18), after the President talks to Putin. I hope we will find ourselves in a better place," Marko Rubio summed up.

These statements show the complexity of the negotiation process, but at the same time indicate the parties to look for ways to achieve a stable peace.
