The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is actively preparing for high-level contacts between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the newly elected US President Donald Trump after his inauguration on January 20. This was stated by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhy, at a press conference on Friday, January 10.
Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine seeks to end the war in a just way, and believes that President Trump shares this desire. An important goal is joint work with the United States to achieve peace in Ukraine.
"All of us in Ukraine want to end the war fairly for Ukraine, and we see that Trump is also determined to end the war. Therefore, the main thing we are waiting for now is a meeting between President Trump and Zelensky, because for us the most important thing is to work together with America for the sake of peace," he said.
The spokesman also commented on the postponement of the visit of Keith Kellogg, the candidate for the position of the US special representative for Ukraine and Russia, to Kyiv. According to him, the postponement of the visit took place for legal reasons, not political ones.
"The only reasons why the visit will take place after the inauguration on January 20 are purely legal," Tykhy explained.
He emphasized that Ukraine is preparing for Kellogg's visit, considering it very important for the further development of cooperation between Ukraine and the USA.
