A new war may break out in the Balkans

About it writes The Wall Street Journal, accusing it of preparation of President Serbia Vicich and Putin.

Three decades after the bloody collapse of Yugoslavia, recent clashes between Serbia and Kosovo have reinforced long -term ethnic conflicts.

While Serbia "manages the events on the spot", Moscow blows the flames, the article said.

“The new regional crisis will give the Kremlin the opportunity to achieve at the local level through arms and mediation trade, while distracting from Ukraine and giving Russia the pressure levers on Western leaders, the authors believe.

"Western Balkans are the ideal candidate. Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina are not NATO members," WSJ writes.

The publication is reminiscent of the incidents in Kosovo last year when there were clashes between Serbs and Kosovo authorities.

After one of them, at the end of September, Serbia placed heavy weapons and troops on the border with Kosovo.

The White House was “very worried that Serbia could prepare for a military invasion,” the American official later said in an interview with Time.

Such a conflict can easily spread to the neighboring northern Macedonia, a member of NATO. The razing crisis has prompted Washington to publish intelligence on the extension of military power near Kosovo by Serbia.

Then Serbia took away the troops, but the authors of the article fear that "Belgrade and Moscow are preparing a second campaign" for 2024. At the same time, both Russia and China are supplied to the Serbs' weapons.

Serbia has promised to increase the military expenses this year and continues to place NATO's main base in Kosovo its humanitarian center, which, according to Western officials, serves as a "Russian Spy Center". Serbia and Russia deny it.

"Serbs seem to be looking for a reason for action - in February, Serbia stated that Kosovo's ban on the use of Serbian dinar as currency is equivalent to ethnic cleansing," WSJ writes.
