The joint efforts of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) managed to stop an attempt to bribe the leadership of the State Customs Service in order to appoint persons who were supposed to contribute to corruption schemes. The organizers hoped that the new management of the customs offices in Lviv, Volyn and Chernivtsi would ignore corrupt practices in exchange for receiving illegally acquired funds. One of the suspects has already been detained.
This was reported by the NABU press service. According to the investigation, the participants of the scheme offered bribes to the leadership of the State Customs Service for appointing their candidates to key positions. In particular, 1 million US dollars were promised for the management of Lviv customs, 500 thousand US dollars for Volynsk, and 200 thousand US dollars for Chernivtsi.
Thanks to the actions of NABU detectives and SAP prosecutors, it was possible to prevent the realization of a criminal plan. Two persons were charged with suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 4 of Art. 27, Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. One of the main organizers of the crime is currently detained under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing.
