China's largest wind farm has reached full power generation capacity

China's largest onshore wind farm (WPP), with an annual output of more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, has reached its maximum output, according to the wind farm's operator, China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC).

The project, located in the desert in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China, is billed as one of the first large-scale wind and solar power plants in China. Projects of this type are planned for construction in desert regions of the country.

According to CGNPC, the power plant in Inner Mongolia produces electricity equivalent to the production of almost 3 million tons of coal. This avoids the emission of approximately 8 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

China plans to commission new power generation facilities based on renewable sources by the end of this year and reach a total capacity of 45 GW. CGNPC currently owns more than 570 new power generation facilities across the country, including those using wind power, solar power, solar thermal and hydrogen power.
