NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned Russian President Vladimir Putin against any attempt to invade the territory of the Alliance. According to him, in this case, the answer will be instantaneous and devastating.
He stated this at a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday, February 12.
"If Putin is accustomed to NATO, let him not even think about it. He loses. The reaction will be simply devastating. After all, we know how powerful NATO's defensive potential is," Rutte said.
He also acknowledged that Russia can significantly strengthen its military capabilities for the next 4-5 years due to the active work of the defense industry. This creates new NATO challenges, so the Alliance should focus on three key areas: strengthening Ukraine's support, increasing defense costs and developing its own military industry.
Secretary-General mentioned China, which actively increases its nuclear potential and expands the Navy. In his opinion, if Moscow and Beijing continue to strengthen their armed forces, they will far exceed the measures that the event now takes.
"We have to remember this. First, we have to spend more on defense, we need to help Ukraine more, we must be able to protect ourselves if there is such a need," Rutte summed up.
