The National Bank of Ukraine has published statistics on how much money is currently "flowing out" of Ukraine due to spending by Ukrainians abroad.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Serhiy Nikolaychuk, the permanent outflow of public funds from Ukraine in the "travel" category amounted to $20 billion in 2022, and $18 billion in 2023.
The National Bank specified that from April 2023 until now, $35 million per day has been spent abroad from Ukrainian bank cards.
This indicator seriously increased after the beginning of the full-scale invasion due to the mass departure of Ukrainian refugees abroad, where many spend money from their Ukrainian cards (which is taken into account by the NBU as an outflow of funds from Ukraine under the "travel" article).
At the same time, the return flow - transfers from Ukrainians from abroad to Ukraine (which used to be one of the main channels of currency inflow to the country) is on the contrary decreasing .
If in 2021 this indicator was $14 billion, then in 2022 it will be $12.5 billion, and in 11 months of 2023 - $10.6 billion.
Thus, now Ukrainians are taking more money out of Ukraine than they are sending to Ukraine.
