Not legitimate - Peskov about Zelenskyi

Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov made a new statement, accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of losing legitimacy after the end of his five-year term in office.

Speaking at the "Festival of New Media" in Russia, Peskov once again repeated the Kremlin's propaganda theses about the alleged illegitimacy of Zelensky.

"Our president has repeatedly stated that President Zelensky has clearly lost his legitimacy," Peskov said. According to him, this issue can complicate the peace negotiations that are being conducted to end the war in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi's presidential term expired on May 20 this year, but the elections were canceled due to the martial law in Ukraine. Russian propaganda is actively spreading the claim that Zelensky is no longer the legitimate president. According to the Kremlin, the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, should lead Ukraine.

However, Stefanchuk himself denied these accusations, noting that Ukraine has no doubts about Zelenskyi's legitimacy. According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the powers of the president end only after the new president takes office. Due to Russian aggression and martial law, it is currently impossible to hold elections.
