The Federal Government of Germany expresses its intention to restore assistance to the Middle East Agency for the UNRWA Palestinian Refugees, despite the suspicions that have arisen about some of its staff in connection with Hamas attack on Israel.
According to Welt, Germany Ministry of Development and Foreign Affairs welcome a report compiled under the leadership of the former French Foreign Minister Katrin Colonna, and express his willingness to immediately implement his recommendations.
"Against this background and in accordance with these reforms, the Federal Government will soon support cooperation with UNRWA in gas," the official statement said.
Germany is thus joining countries that have already resumed UNRWA support, including Australia, Canada, Sweden and Japan. At the same time, both German ministries stated that they will actively cooperate with other international partners to allocate additional funds for this purpose.
The report published in New York, independent experts concluded that UNRWA has used a number of effective mechanisms to ensure that the principle of neutrality has been maintained.
We will also add that the investigation was started after the accusations of the involvement of some UNRWA staff in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which killed more than 1,200 people.
Earlier, the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Finland and Italy have announced the suspension of UNRWA funding, but the European Union has supported the agency.
