In 2025, Norway will provide Ukraine with financial assistance of 164 million Norwegian crowns (approximately 14 million euros) to maintain mine efforts, in particular with the help of dogs. This was reported by the Government of Norway.
Within the framework of this initiative, a special training center was created in Roman, where the Norwegian organization Norsk Folkehjelp and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The Center aims to professionalize and systematize the process of training dogs and cynologists for effective demining.
This initiative began in 2022, when the Center actively developed infrastructure and improved the conditions for training dogs and their accompanying cynologists. In December 2024, the Norwegian government announced an increase in funding for the organization by 2025, which will allow to expand its activities. Norsk Folkehjelp has become one of 69 certified international partners involved in demining in Ukraine. One of the main directions of their activity is the preparation of mine-search dogs, as well as to promote the development of Ukrainian potential in the field of demining.
