Claudia Shaynbaum, the newly elected President of Mexico, declared its intention to adhere to the policy of non -interference in external affairs, continuing its predecessor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. About it reports Fuser News.
Sheinbaum, who will join on October 1, rejected the invitation of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to visit Kiev. She emphasized that the main task of her administration would be to focus on internal issues of Mexico.
“Our responsibility is here. We will attend some international events that we consider important, but we will not travel a lot. Our responsibility is here, ”Sheinbaum said.
She also confirmed that Mexico will continue to maintain diplomatic relations with all countries, except for Ecuador, where in April there was an incident, which Sheinbaum called "a violation of sovereignty."
Claudia Sheynbaum became the first female president of Mexico, winning a record of incomplete 36 million votes (61.18 %). Its inauguration will take place on October 1, 2024.
It is worth noting that Mexico invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Sheinbaum inauguration. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent an official appeal to Mexico to arrest Putin in the event of his arrival for inauguration. The Ukrainian side stressed that Mexico, as a member of the International Criminal Court (ICS), is obliged to execute a warrant for the arrest of the Russian President, issued in March 2023 on charges of war crimes, in particular the abduction of Ukrainian children.
However, the previous President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that the country will not be able to fulfill the request of Ukraine for the arrest of Putin if he visits Mexico.
