In the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), militants opened fire on a helicopter owned by the United Nations mission (UN). As a result, two peacekeepers were injured.

A representative of the UN mission to stabilize in the DR Congo reported at a briefing that the attack was probably committed by members of the armed M23 group, they "fired at one of the UN helicopters". As a result of this incident, two peacekeepers from South Africa were injured, one of which was seriously injured.

According to France-Presse, the mission helicopter has successfully landed after the attack that took place in the area of Goma.

The UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo has about 18,000 people and was launched in the Eastern Congo in 2010. The main goal of the mission is to support the efforts of the Congolese Government to stabilize the region suffering from insurgents' violence.

It is worth noting that this incident is not the first attack on UN mission representatives in the Congo. A year ago, the insurgents had already opened fire on a helicopter with peacekeepers, which led to the death of one of the passengers of the helicopter.
