The UN is creating a global AI governance body

UN Secretary General Anthony Guterres has announced the creation of an advisory body on world management of artificial intelligence.

It consists of 39 members: technological companies, governments from Spain to Saudi Arabia and scientists from countries such as the US, Russia and Japan.

Among the heads of technological companies presented in the body can be distinguished by the main technological director of Sony Hiraok Kitano, the main technical director of Openai Murati and the main responsible for artificial intelligence in Microsoft Natas Cruptton.

Representatives also arrived from six continents and have a variety of funds, from the American expert on the artificial intelligence of Vilas Dhar to Professor Zen from China and the Egyptian lawyer Mohammed Farhahat.

"The potential of transformation of artificial intelligence for good cannot even be imagined," Guterres said in a statement.

"And without even resorting to all the scenarios of the end of the world, it is already clear that the use of artificial intelligence for evil can undermine confidence in institutions, weaken social consistency and threaten democracy itself," he said.

Since the launch of Chatgpt Openai, last year, interest in new technology has spread around the world, leading artificial intelligence researchers have expressed concern about "risks to society".

While many governments are working on formulating laws to regulate the spread of artificial intelligence, researchers and legislators call for global cooperation.

According to the UN, the body will present preliminary recommendations by the end of this year and the final recommendations by the summer of 2024.

Immediate tasks include creating a global scientific consensus on risks and challenges, as well as strengthening international cooperation on artificial intelligence management. The first meeting of the body will take place on October 27.
