Canada's opposition demands Trudeau's resignation

The leader of the New Democratic Party of Social Democrats of Canada, Jagmeet Singh, has announced that in early 2025 he will initiate a vote of confidence in the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to Singh, it doesn't matter who leads the Liberal Party because he believes the Trudeau government's time has passed. "We will present a clear vote of no confidence at the next session of the House of Commons," he added.

This proposal was also supported by the leader of the Quebec Bloc, another opposition party, noting that "there is no scenario in which Trudeau will survive" in his position. If all the opposition forces vote for a vote of no confidence, Trudeau will be forced to leave his post as prime minister after more than nine years at the head of the Canadian government. It will also mean early elections.

It will be recalled that Trudeau heads a minority government. The Liberal Party has only 153 seats out of 338 in the House of Commons, which means they need the support of other parliamentary forces to make decisions. Until then, the New Democratic Party supported the Liberal government.
