The Parliament of Georgia passed the draft law "on foreign agents" in the first reading

Georgia's Parliament approved in the first reading the bill “On Inaging”, against which mass protests were gathered twice, reports “Echo of the Caucasus”.

No MP voted against the adoption, 83.

The day before people protested against the bill near Parliament, they were dispersed by police.

The bill obliges non-governmental organizations and media that receive more than 20% of funding from abroad to register as an organization conducting interests of foreign force. For evasion of registration, it is suggested to be fined.

Georgia's authorities state that this law is a mitigated version of the US law on registration of foreign agents and that its adoption "will significantly increase the quality of public awareness."

At the same time, opponents of the law, supported by the West, state that it is written off from the Russian and aimed at discrediting the opposition.
