Paris shuts down X's social media account for misinformation and hate speech

The French capital has decided to leave social network X, pointing to the rise of misinformation and hate speech that has become increasingly prominent on the platform since it was acquired by Elon Musk. This happened due to increasing difficulties in using the service, which forced the city to make it "impossible" to continue an active presence in the network.

In a farewell message on the official Paris account, it was noted that the closure of the account on January 20 is a difficult but necessary step if the city wants to "unite society through peaceful means of expression." In particular, the importance of truthful information and facts in modern society is emphasized.

In connection with the closure of the account on X, Paris announced the transition to the Bluesky social network. The post also states that Platform X is reducing the reach of objective messages while fueling hate speech and misinformation, leading to serious social problems.

It should be noted that the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, left Platform X at the end of 2023, calling it a "scumbag" and a "weapon of mass destruction of democracies." She expressed confidence that Musk's actions on the platform contribute to the exacerbation of social conflicts and undermine the foundations of democracy.

Hidalgo emphasized that the owner of X is deliberately working to increase tensions and support political projects that go against democratic values, and that the platform has long been part of the interests of large private players.
