In Ukraine, traditionally twice a year is translated - for summer and winter. However, in 2025 the situation may change. The Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill that abolishes the seasonal transfer of arrows, but it will come into force - it is still unknown.
For the first time, Benjamin Franklin, who proposed this idea to save candles, spoke about the change of time in the eighteenth century. Later, British activist William Willett tried to bring her to life, but to no avail.
For the first time, the summer introduced Germany for the first time in 1916, trying to save resources during the First World War. After that, the US and more than 100 countries were introduced.
In Ukraine, the transition to the summer time took place in 1918 during the Ukrainian People's Republic, and since 1981 this practice has become annual. Already in independent Ukraine it was enshrined in the Cabinet resolution of 1996.
In August 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Bill No. 4201, initiated by Ruslan Stefanchuk, which provides for the cancellation of the clock transfer. According to this document, Ukraine should remain in winter.
However, the law has not yet entered into force - it is waiting for President Vladimir Zelensky. If the decision is not made by the end of March 2025, Ukrainians will traditionally switch to summer.
If the cancellation of seasonal time does not happen, Ukraine will switch to summer time on the night of March 29 to March 30, 2025. At 3:00 the clock arrows will need to be moved for an hour in advance - for 4:00.
Main arguments in favor of seasonal time:
-
More efficient use of daylight - increases the time of work in natural light.
-
Electricity savings are less need for artificial lighting.
-
Optimization of working hours is the ratio of the activity of the population with a daylight.
However, many countries have abandoned this practice. Currently, seasonal time is only used in 60 countries, while 140 countries have never been switched to or abandoned the summer.
Modern smartphones, laptops, tablets and smart people are automatically moving to modern times. However, mechanical watches and some mobile phone models should be translated manually.
