In Ukraine, some outdated Soviet treatments continue to be used, the effectiveness of which has no scientific confirmation, and in some cases can even harm health. Among these practices are especially widespread overlapping of the earrings on the ear, breathing over potatoes and the use of furacillin for the treatment of various diseases.
Furacillin, although it belongs to the group of antibiotics and has antiseptic properties, according to the conclusions of European and American medical protocols is not an effective treatment for acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract.
In the case of viral infection, antibiotics are usually not required, and systemic treatment is recommended for bacterial infections. Throat rinsing with furacillin does not release pain, inflammation or swelling, and therefore is ineffective.
Regarding the imposition of alcohol or vodka compresses on the ear with inflammation, this practice also has no scientific justification. Alcohol can increase pain with external otitis, and with otitis media can lead to skin burns and even intoxication due to alcohol absorption.
Another outdated method is to breathe hot steam over potatoes during colds. Such procedures can lead to facial burns and respiratory tract, which can exacerbate health.
