The director of the press service of St. Matteo Bruni told reporters that during the conversation, the parties paid attention to the humanitarian situation in the region and the importance of assisting the victims.
Pope Lev XIV called on Russia to take a step towards a meeting of peace, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to establish positive contacts between the parties to the conflict and to find ways to resolve the confrontation.
The interlocutors also discussed the exchange of prisoners, including the efforts of Cardinal Matteo Maria Dzuppi, Archbishop Bologna, who is actively working in this direction.
The director of the press service added that Pope Lev XIV also mentioned Patriarch Cyril, thanking him for his greetings with the beginning of the pontiff. The Pope emphasized that common Christian values can serve as light in finding peace, protecting life and upholding true religious freedom.
