Political pressure on journalists in Ukraine is increasing

The Western edition of The New York Times published an article about the deterioration of the situation with freedom of speech in Ukraine under the heading "The Great Step Back: Ukraine is concerned about a decrease in freedom of the press."

The material states that journalists and organizations that study the freedom of the press are seriously outraged because during the presidency of Vladimir Zelensky in Ukraine, restrictions and pressure on the media are exacerbated. They argue that such measures exceed the need for martial law.

According to Oksana Romanyuk, the director of the Institute of Media, it is of serious concern, as Ukraine is fighting for democracy against dictatorial values, which is symbolized by Russia.

The article also notes that before the start of a full -scale war, Ukraine was marked by a tolerant attitude to a variety of media storage, with numerous television channels that represented both opposition and pro -government positions and independent news.

Ukrainian journalists, under the article, adapted to the rules of wartime, refraining from publications on military aspects and retention in the government, so as not to violate national security or moral spirit.

Editor Sergey Sidorenko noted that self -censorship in the Ukrainian media is a necessity in the conditions of war and he expects that after the termination of hostilities, the country will return to a normal life.
