Singer and composer Eric Carmen, known for his hit All by Myself, died at 74, his wife reported.
Before proving himself as a soloist, the American musician became famous with the Power-Pop band Raspberries.
Hungry Eyes, one of his large solo hits, appeared in the classic movie 1987 "Dirty Dancing".
"Our sweet, loving and talented Eric died in a dream on the weekend," his wife Amy said on the singer's official site.
"He was very pleased to know that his music has been moving many for decades and would remain his inheritance."
She ended her message with a quote "Love is all that matters ... true and forever" from Carmen Boats Against the Current in 1977.
The singer is born in Ohio. In the early 1970s, he, along with Jim Bonfanti and Walley Brishon, later joined by Dave Smolly after John Alexew's departure, founded a Raspberries group.
In 1972, Raspberries released a debut album and their tracks became popular. In particular, Go All The Way is a song that was banned from the BBC in the UK through sexual texts.
A few decades later, in 2014, the Go All The Way became the soundtrack of the Guardian Galaxy.

This song can also be heard at the beginning of the movie Bridget Jones.
As a composer, Carmen is famous for the Almost Paradise hits from the musical "Free" and Never Gonna Fall in Love Again and Make Me Lose Control.
