Repeated process in Winstein's case

On Wednesday, April 23, a second lawsuit in New York began in the case of the former Hollywood producer Garvey Weinstein, who is accused of rape and sexual abuse. This time the sentence will be issued a jury, most of which are women.

The trial began with the entrance statements of the parties, and the main composition of the jury included 12 people - 7 women and 5 men. In addition, 6 spare jurors were selected, which will be able to replace the main participants in the process if necessary.

The jury consists of different specialists: among them there is a physicist-researcher, photographer, nutritionist, therapist, an investment bank programmer and the head of the fire safety service. There are also representatives of areas such as real estate, television advertising and social work.

This lawsuit is repeated after Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual abuse in 2020. However, last year, the Higher Instance Court of New York overturned the sentence, noting that the judge had admitted a biased testimony. Now the case will be considered a new court.

73-year-old Garvey Winstein insists on his innocence and denies accusations of rape and sexual abuse against acts.

During the selection of jurors, potential candidates asked direct questions about their attitude to the #Metoo movement and the influence of the previous publicity, emphasizing the importance of impartiality in the assessment of the specific circumstances of the case.
