US position on negotiations with Russia

US Vice president, Jay Di, said that the Kremlin could not expect the transfer of Ukrainian territories in future negotiations, especially those that Russia does not even control. He said this on May 8 in an interview with Foxnews.

“Our position is clear: we do not want Ukraine to break up. We strive for Ukraine to remain a sovereign state. However, Russia cannot expect that it will be given to territories that it has not even won, ”Vance stressed.

He also stressed that the United States seeks diplomatic settlement, but ready to get out of the process if Russia does not negotiate in good faith. In this case, the Vice President emphasized, the US will not participate in further negotiations - and the parties will resolve a conflict without American mediation.

“It will not be in favor of anyone - neither us nor Russia, nor Ukraine. But we cannot force them to negotiate - to create the conditions. And this is what the president does. We have already reached some diplomatic breakthroughs, ”he said.

Vance added that the United States would continue efforts to bring the parties closer to a long peace, but also acknowledged that progress has been limited.

“We have not yet achieved it. We will work until we decide that it is impossible to achieve more progress. And then you have to retreat, ”he summed up.
