Anxiety Techniques: A Simple Exercise to Help

Mental health program "How are you?" shared a simple breathing technique designed for use in stressful situations.

This technique, known as "Square Breathing", is designed to control emotions, reduce anxiety and saturate the body with oxygen. The program informs about this in its announcement on the Facebook page.

The instructions for the technique are as follows: "Imagine a square in front of you." Then you focus on your breathing and, moving your eyes along the sides of the square, inhale/exhale on the vertical lines and pause on the horizontal ones.

Specific order:

  1. Inhale slowly and count to four.
  2. Pause and also count to four.
  3. Exhale slowly (1,2,3,4).
  4. Pause (1,2,3,4).

"Repeat the exercise several times. If you feel discomfort, try another rhythm that will be comfortable for you," the program recommends.
