The Transnistrian region gradually eliminates the checkpoints installed on the line of demarcation with Moldova. This decision was announced during a meeting of the Joint Control Commission, Newsmaker .
According to Moldova's delegation in the commission, representatives of Transnistria have declared their intention to reduce the number of checkpoints, and the process of dismantling them will be controlled by military observers of joint peacekeeping forces.
"The information will be checked by military observers who will move the planned routes and provide detailed reports ," the Moldovan side said.
In recent years, Chisinau insisted on eliminating illegal checkpoints installed in 2022. One of the important factors in influencing Transnistria was the position of Moldova's government to supply gas to the region.
Previously, the Transnistrian authorities had 33 checkpoints, but there are only 11 of them.
The reduction of checkpoints can be a signal of gradual weakening of the voltage between Chisinau and Tiraspol. At the same time, this step may be related to international pressure and negotiations on the possible regulation of Transnistria's status in the future.
