In Japan, a new record for bears was recorded: 212 incidents for the current year exceeding the previous maximum, recorded in 2020 (158 attacks). These data were available thanks to the Ministry of Environment of Japan, which studied the incidents from April to November this year.
It is noted that this is the first excess of 200 attacks, since the start of statistics in 2006. The current financial year also noted six deaths as a result of bears attacks.
The Ministry has sent experts to the prefectures of Ivate and Toyama to help catch bears and collect information about their habitat. The representatives of the department are urged to remain wary, even in December, when the bears usually fall into hibernation, given the previous cases of attacks during this period.
