Russian weapons in Lebanon as a challenge to Israel

The Army of Defense of Israel (Tsakhal) during operations in southern Lebanon found that much of the weapons of the Hezbolla group is Russian origin. According to military specialists, about 60-70% of the weapons detected were made in Russia.

Despite the fact that the accurate routes of this armament of this weapons are hezbolla's hands, there is reason to believe that some of the weapons have been transferred through Syria. Some samples showed a marking that shows that these ammunition was originally delivered to the Ministry of Defense of Syria. For example, one of the missiles had a label in Russian, which confirms its Syrian origin.

According to the Tsakhal, both modern and old samples were found among weapons. Some of them were made in the 1980s, while others recently, in 2020. Among the modern arsenal, high precision anti -tank rockets Cornet . Other anti -tank systems, such as Metis , Contest , Fagot and Baby , which are widely used for armor attacks, were also found.

Experts emphasize that the exact quantity and extent of such supplies remain unknown. Tsakhal also do not have clear information who trained the militants to use Russian weapons, but express concern due to the potential of further growth of hezbolla's military capacity through external support.
