NATO forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, expressed his conviction that regardless of the war in Ukraine, the Russian army will become stronger after it today. In an interview with Der Spiegel , he stressed that Russia's future armed forces would pose a significant threat to NATO.
Cavoli noted that the leadership of the Russian army sees NATO's main enemy, and even after the end of the war, Russia will be dissatisfied with its results, which can stimulate the strengthening of its military power.
"These forces will be at the border of our Alliance. We will have a rival with real skills, mass and clear intention. That is why we must be ready and need an armed forces that will be able to confront it," the general said.
Cavoli also drew attention to the increase in threats to European security through Russia's cooperation with China and North Korea. He stressed that the Alliance should act quickly and be ready to ahead of Russia in the development of defense opportunities.
"The threat is very serious ... NATO should have more opportunities than our opponent. Therefore, we have to fulfill the requirements that derive from the defense plans. When I say quickly, I mean that we should be faster than the Russians. Only we can restrain them," Kavola added.
The words of the American General emphasize the importance of further strengthening of NATO defense capacities, especially against the backdrop of an unstable situation in Eastern Europe and potential threats by Russia's allies.
