Scientists at the University of Holf in Avadz, Japan, conducted a study that found that the presence of plants on the desktop helps to reassure and reduce stress. The effect was noticed for different species of plants, from cacti to dwarf trees.
Within four weeks, 60 office workers participated in an experiment, which worked with different types of plants on their tables, such as Bonsai, house palm, echeveria, comedama and cactus. The level of anxiety and heart rate were measured before and after the experiment, and it turned out that the participants felt less stress.
One of the authors of the study, Masakhiro Toyoda, said: "Not everyone understands and use the benefits of plants in the workplace. Therefore, we decided to conduct research to provide scientific evidence about the positive influence of plants on physical and mental well -being."
The level of stress hormone, cortisol, decreased by average by 10%when workers interacted with plants. Scientists recommend to carry out "therapy" plants, giving about 20-30 minutes a day to achieve the best effect.
