After meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, US President Donald Trump said he was "not ready for peace if America participates." According to him, negotiations in the White House were tense and emotional, which allowed to reveal many important aspects.
“A very meaningful meeting took place in the White House today. A lot of information was obtained that could not be understood without such pressure and tension, ”Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
He also noted that Zelensky found "unqualified to the United States in their respected oval office", and therefore added: "He may return when he will be ready for peace." After this statement, the Ukrainian president left the White House ahead of schedule and the planned joint press conference was abolished.
According to Sky News, it was envisaged to sign a mineral agreement, after which a press conference was required. However, the intense atmosphere between the leaders led to the disruption of these plans.
The dispute between the presidents began after Zelensky's statement that "the United States has no right to indicate what to do to Ukraine." Trump, in turn, emphasized the threat of the Third World War and accused Ukraine of disrespect for the United States. Extra tension was also caused by the comment of the US Vice President Jay Vens on the lack of men in Ukraine, to which Zelensky replied: "Come and check for yourself."
Washington has already issued an official statement about the results of the negotiations, but the details remain limited. It is obvious that differences between the US and Ukraine on military support and peaceful settlement of war with Russia continue to exacerbate.
