Death penalty for terrorists in Israel

Israeli National Security Minister Imamar Ben Guil has declared his intention to submit a bill to Kneset, which provides for a mandatory death penalty for terrorists. In his announcement on social networks, Ben Guil said that his party Otzma Yehudit plans to submit a bill to the Knesset National Security Committee on Monday.

"I expect that all members of Knesset will support this important bill," he wrote.

To date, in Israel, the death penalty is only used for crimes against humanity and state. However, the new bill is expanding the possibility of making deaths for terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens.

Israel last applied the death penalty in 1962, when the Holocaust architect Adolf Eichman was executed. In February this year, Kneset supported the preliminary reading of the death penalty for terrorist acts. The initiative should now take three more readings to enter into force. Previously, such an initiative was already considered in 2017.
