Before the elections in Germany, the last debate was held between the current Chancellor Olaf Scholtz and the leader of the CDU Friedrich Martz. The discussion organized by the Welt and the Bild has covered the key topics of the election campaign: migration policies, economic challenges and possible coalitions.
Chancellor Olaf Scholt stressed the importance of strengthening his party to prevent the CDU from cooperation with the right -wing ADN (alternative to Germany).
"The SPD should become so strong that I can not only lead the government, but also prevent any possible cooperation between the CDU and the ADN in any form ," he said.
Scholz also emphasized the need to strengthen law enforcement agencies for timely detection of offenders among migrants.
Friedrich Merz has accused the current coalition government of growing ADN popularity, emphasizing unresolved problems of migration and weak economic policy.
"The coalition government has provided such a party with such a strong position thanks to an unresolved migration problem and a pathetic economic policy ," he said.
Despite the criticism of the government, Merrt assured that there would be no cooperation with ADN, since this party "opposes everything that my party has built in the history of the federal republic .
Merz pointed to the experience of Denmark, which, in his opinion, was able to effectively resolve migration through rigid policy. He also criticized Scholz for his unfulfilled promise for mass deportations.
Scholt, in turn, stressed the need to strengthen deportations, stating that in 2023, 100,000 people had filed an application for shelter.
"We must make further progress with the return and deportation ," the chancellor said.
Merz replied that "migration and economic turn" are the main conditions for a new coalition, and his plan of five points provides for an immediate expulsion of illegal migrants.
