The retired Lieutenant General Kit Kellogg, appointed by Donald Trump, planned to visit Kiev in early January. However, according to Reuters with reference to its own sources, this visit has been canceled.
In addition to Kiev, Kellogg's team was preparing to visit European capitals, including Rome and Paris. However, these meetings will also not take place. Neither Kellogo himself nor the representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington commented on the reasons for the cancellation of the visit.
During the election campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly stated that he would be able to resolve the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of joining the post. Although there has not yet been real steps in this direction, the end of the conflict remains a key priority of its future administration.
Kellogg's visit to Ukraine is expected to take place after Trump's inauguration. However, the date of his arrival remains unknown.
The Trump team is already negotiating with the White House and Ukrainian officials regarding possible ways to end the war with Russia. Kellogg's appointment is one of the first steps towards activating the diplomatic efforts of Trump's future administration.
