The United States has decided to stop their participation in the planning of future military exercises in Europe, according to the Swedish edition of Expressen, referring to sources in defensive circles. This solution has become a significant step in America's policy towards its interaction with NATO and can have serious consequences for the Alliance's preparation in Europe.
According to the publication, this decision does not apply to the exercises scheduled for 2025. However, as the sources note, it is about training that is now at the development stage. If the US decision remains in force, Sweden and other NATO countries will have to train without active US participation or with only small US units.
Military expert and former lieutenant colonel Jakim Paasikivi noted that joint training is critical for the Alliance's effectiveness. According to him, during such exercises, partner countries not only work out combat skills in conditions similar to real ones, but also get acquainted with each other's work. This creates the necessary mutual understanding, which is the basis for coordinated cooperation in combat.
"If you are not practiced, your chances of efficiency if you have to fight together are reduced," the expert emphasized.
This decision of the United States is questioning the further cooperation of NATO countries in military training, as joint training is an important component of the Alliance Strategy for strengthening defense and joint operations in various threats.
