The United States has stopped key assistance to Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity, which can significantly weaken the country's defense against Russian hacker attacks. This was reported by Bloomberg on April 25, referring to knowledgeable sources.
Over the past five years, only USAID (USAID) has provided more than $ 200 million for cyber defense programs for Ukraine. The US National Security Agency and Cyber Command were also actively involved.
Assistance covered hundreds of facilities all over Ukraine - from government agencies to power plants, banks, gas suppliers and even nuclear facilities. Ukrainian institutions received not only technical support, but also equipment, software and training.
However, according to Bloomberg, a number of contracts have been canceled or suspended. Planned supply of computer equipment and software to strengthen cyber defense have never taken place.
The largest project funded by USAID - $ 128 million initiative to protect critical infrastructure - was concluded in 2020 with the DAI Global LLC consulting company. She worked with dozens of subcontractors on the implementation of cybersecurity decisions throughout the country. Now the implementation of this project is in question.
American assistance was key to Ukraine's cybersecurity, especially against the background of constant attacks by Russia. All major public administration systems and the critical infrastructure of the country are regularly attempted by breaking, sabotage or cyber -spy.
Analysts warn that cessation of support will make Ukraine more vulnerable. One of Bloomberg's interlocutors noted that digital defense is as critical as military - especially during the war.
