US calls on Russia and Ukraine before the termination of hostilities

At a meeting of the UN Security Council, which took place on February 24, 2025, the United States appealed to Ukraine and Russia to make a "difficult choice" and stop fighting for three years. This statement was made by the Attorney's permanent representative at the UN Dorothy Shi, commenting on the situation in Ukraine against the backdrop of the third anniversary of the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Russia. AI emphasized that without stopping hostilities, reaching the peace agreement will be extremely difficult.

According to AI, Washington seeks to achieve long -term peace, but this process implies that Russia and Ukraine should resolve the issue of termination of war. She noted that, despite the complexity of the situation, it was time for both countries to decide and stop combat to restore stability in the region.

The American diplomat also stressed that last week the United States began a direct dialogue with Russia. According to the US Secretary of State after negotiations in Riyadh, Washington and Moscow have undertaken negotiations to end the conflict. At the same time, AI called the war in Ukraine "conflict", giving the importance of the need for diplomatic efforts.

Russia, in turn, has expressed its willingness to stop the fighting only if negotiations on the termination of the war would lead to a "solid, persistent result" that will suit Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that the decision to terminate the fighting depends on the specific conditions on which Russia is ready to agree.

It should be noted that in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh there were direct negotiations between the United States and Russia regarding Ukraine, but these meetings were held without the participation of representatives of Ukraine and European countries. This has caused some concern among the international community, as the future of Ukraine is decided without the direct participation of Kiev.
