German Chancellor Olaf Soltz, in its author's column for the Wall Street Journal, notes that the victory of Russia in Ukraine will not only affect Ukraine itself, but also significantly change the political situation in Europe, as well as undermine the foundations of Liberal World Order.
Scholz emphasizes that such a step in Russia can be a negative example for other authoritarian regimes, increasing the risk for other countries to become the object of aggression. He warns that such situations can lead to even greater instability and threatening in the world.
Despite the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people, Russia has not achieved its military goals so far, which should be considered as a result of financial and military support from the West. Scholz emphasizes that the European Union, together with the United States and Germany, provided considerable financial assistance to Ukraine and provided it with military equipment worth more than $ 30 billion.
In his message, Scholz calls for maximum efforts to prevent the victory of Russia, preventing possible long -term consequences and abandoning resistance, which can lead to an unpredictable and unstable world that threatens international security.
Olaf Scholtz makes a number of proposals in his plan for the situation in Ukraine.
First, he calls for further support of Ukraine. Scholz notes that in early February, the European Council obliged Ukraine to provide additional financial assistance in the amount of $ 54 billion over the next four years. He calls for his European colleagues to make the necessary budget decisions to provide this assistance and additional military support.
Secondly, Sholtz proposes to continue strategic actions on both sides of the Atlantic, convincing citizens in the serious consequences of Russia's victory, which will exhaust budgets and threaten freedom and prosperity. It emphasizes the importance of avoiding confrontation with Russia, but at the same time calls on to counteract attempts to involve NATO in a conflict against Ukraine. To this end, he promises to place a full -fledged German combat brigade in Lithuania on the Eastern Flanging of NATO.
He emphasizes that only by maintaining support, unity and determination, the West can reach a long peace and force Putin to stop the war against Ukraine.
