The highest Court of Appeal of France rejected the appeal of former President Nicolas Sarkozy in the case of trade and corruption, confirming the previous sentence. The Court of Cassation left the decision on three years of imprisonment, of which two were conditional.
Sarkozy was found guilty of listening to an attempt to obtain secret information in the case of illegal financing of his election campaign in 2007. According to the investigation, the expatriate offered the former Prosecutor General "desired position" in Monaco in exchange for information.
The key evidence in the case was the records of telephone conversations between Sarkozy and his lawyer. Despite the fact that the Exploree argued that no proposal had been made, investigators stated that he had abandoned his intentions only after he learned about listening.
This is not the only lawsuit for the former head of France. In 2025, Sarkozy should be re -appeared in court on charges of corruption and illegally financing his presidential campaign, probably at the expense of Libya. In case of recognition of his guilty expansion, he may be threatened with up to 10 years in prison.
This sentence has become unprecedented in French politics, demonstrating that even the highest policies can be held accountable for violation of the law.
