The court made a decision in favor of Julian Assange, accused of disclosing US state secrets

In Britain, the case of the Extradition of the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, to the United States of America, continues. Currently, the court has postponed the final decision to make sure that the United States will not apply the death penalty to Assange.

Julian Assange has been in custody in British prison for several years. He was arrested in 2019 for violation of the conditions of bail in the Ecuador Embassy in London, where he was in order to avoid extradition to Sweden in connection with the accusation of sexual crimes.

In July 2020, the British Court decided by Assange's extradition to the United States, where it was threatened with a large number of accusations, including the disclosure of state secrets. However, the decision was not final and subsequent consideration.

According to two judges of the high court, a new hearing will take place in May, unless the United States gives further guarantees of what will happen to it.

American prosecutors claim that 52-year Assuzh encouraged and assisted the US Army Intelligence Analytics Chelsea Menning to abduct diplomatic dispatches and military files published by his site.

However, Assange supporters claim that he is a hero who is persecuted for exposing the US wrongful actions.

In her decision, since January 2021, the then District Judge Vanessa Barayzer stated that Assange should not be sent to the United States, referring to the real risk of suicide, which "depresses", and at the same time made a decision against it on all other issues.

However, later the same year, the US authorities won the High Court to cancel the decision, opening the way to its extradition.

During the two -day hearings in February, Assange's lawyers were asked to appeal to them the decision of a judge who rejected other parts of his case to prevent his extradition.

The United States accuses Julian Assange for 18 points, including theft of secret information, espionage and conspiracy for the purpose of breaking computer networks. In the case of a conviction, he may be threatened with up to 175 years in prison.

For seven years - from 2012 to 2019 - the creator of WikiLeaks was hiding at the Ecuador Embassy in the United Kingdom, which gave him shelter. This enabled him to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he was accused of rape.

In April 2019, the British court found the founder of WikiLeaks guilty of not attending the 2012 court hearing. Ecuador authorities allowed the British police to go to the embassy and arrest Assange.

Subsequently, the High Court of London granted the US appeal to ban his extradition. In June 2022, the UK authorities ordered the sending Assange to the United States.
