Territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia

The military expert and colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Zhdanov believes that in the event of the new President of the United States Donald Trump to freeze the war under the current line of clash, the exchange of territories between Ukraine and Russia can be possible. He stated this in a comment for Glavred .

Zhdanov suggests that the territories of the Kursk region, which are now partially controlled by the Armed Forces, can be the object of such exchange.

"Putin holds three bridgeheads: one in the Sumy region near Zhuravlivka and two in the Kharkiv region. These territories may become the subject of arrangements," the expert said.

According to him, the occupied part of the Kharkiv region or all three Russian bridgeheads can "exchange" in the Kursk region.

The expert also recalled the statement of the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Mykola Patrushev, who hinted at the possibility of partial exchange of territories.

"It can be part of a compromise if the event seeks to freeze the conflict and Ukraine will return some of its territories," Zhdanov added.

The idea of sharing territories is considerable discussions. For Ukraine, which seeks complete restoration of territorial integrity, such a compromise may be unacceptable. On the other hand, the position of the international community, including the United States, will play a key role in resolving this issue.

Zhdanov noted that even when discussing such scenarios, it is necessary to take into account the position of Ukrainian society, which will probably reject any territorial concessions.
