US President Donald Trump said he could visit Istanbul if he sees a real opportunity to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He told reporters on board the presidential aircraft on Wednesday, May 14.
"There is such a likelihood if it helps to stop the war. I will think about it," the American leader said.
According to Trump, he has already planned a busy schedule in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday - on the day when negotiations of Ukrainian and Russian delegations are expected in Istanbul.
"But that does not mean that I can't do it (visit Istanbul - ed.) To save many lives and then return," Trump added.
The US President also commented on a possible participation in the negotiations of Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I don't know if he will be there. I know that he would like me to arrive there," he said.
At the same time, Trump confirmed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will go to Istanbul. "Marco will be there. He works effectively," the White House Head emphasized.
