The newly elected US President Donald Trump plans to appoint a special representative for peaceful settlement in Ukraine in the near future. According to information from an anonymous source, it is a person with a high authority who will be responsible for promoting a peaceful decision to end the war in Ukraine. According to sources, this purpose will be on a public basis, without payments.
The approach to the peace process from Trump is reminiscent of the US previous experience: from 2017 to 2019, the functions of the US special representative on Ukrainian issues were performed by Kurt Volker, who also worked on a voluntary basis.
In addition, according to Washington Post, Trump recently had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the issue of war in Ukraine was discussed. Kyiv was informed of this conversation and did not object to its conduct. It is noted that these actions testify to Trump's intention to actively look for ways for peaceful dialogue.
