Trump agreed on the pressure on Iran

US President Donald Trump has signed a decree to restore the Maximum Pressure Policy on Iran. The strategy is aimed at reducing Iran's income from oil exports in order to prevent Tehran from getting its own nuclear weapons. The White House reported this on February 4.

Earlier, Trump accused former President Joe Biden of his inability to effectively control oil sanctions, which, he said, allowed Tehran to sell oil to financing the nuclear program and armed groups in the Middle East.

According to Reuters, Trump signed by the Memorandum stipulates that the US Finance Minister should apply "Maximum Economic Pressure" on Iran, including sanctions and mechanisms for monitoring their compliance with the violators already in force.

Upon reporting of the memorandum, oil quotes in the United States partially offset the decrease caused by the trade conflict between Washington and Beijing.

Recall that in December 2024 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned that Iran became closer to the creation of nuclear weapons. On February 3, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington should "put more pressure on Iran until they stop doing what they are doing."
