Turkey activates the role of mediator in the war in Ukraine

Turkish President Recep TaiP Erdogan has declared his willingness to promote peaceful settlement of war between Ukraine and Russia. On May 30, he had a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during which future peace initiatives were discussed.

In particular, it was a second round of negotiations between delegations of Ukraine and Russia, which is planned to be held on June 2 in Istanbul. The Turkish leader emphasized the importance of this stage to achieve ceasefire.

"Consideration of possible termination of hostilities within the second round of negotiations will be an important step towards establishing peace," Erdogan said. He also stressed that the participation of delegations in the extended composition should maintain the positive dynamics of dialogue.

The Turkish President expressed his conviction that after the technical negotiations at the delegation level, it is necessary to go to the meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. In his opinion, this should be done without delay, since the highest level dialogue will be able to speed up the promotion to peace.

Istanbul is expected to become a platform for the search for diplomatic decisions, as it has happened in previous years. Turkey traditionally positions itself as a neutral mediator in conflicts in the Black Sea space.
