The US State Department has expressed its concern about Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to Mongolia, during which he was not arrested, despite the Order of the International Criminal Court (ICS). Putin's official visit provoked an international reaction, in particular from the United States, which noted the lack of legal actions in this case.
According to Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the American Foreign Ministry, Washington intends to continue to support Ulan Bator, but he hopes that he will meet international obligations in the future.
“We do not think that other countries should provide Putin's platform to support his aggressive war against Ukraine. We expect Mongolia to comply with its obligations and continue to support the principles of the UN Charter, in particular on sovereignty and territorial integrity ... And it is important that, when communicating with Russia, they clearly emphasize their support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, ”Miller said.
At the same time, he added that the United States understands the difficult situation of Mongolia with a population of just more than 3 million people, being between two major neighbors - the Russian Federation and China.
