France faced the acute shortage of gunpowder required in the production of large caliber missiles for the Ukrainian army, writes BFM TV. Eurenco, which supplies gunpowder, reduced production volumes and transferred some of its capacities to Sweden, and purchased a part of it from neighbors.
A year ago, the Minister of Armed Forces Sebastian Lecorton announced that production would be returned to France to revive the industry. The Eurenco modernized plant must start operating in 2025 and produce 1200 tons of gunpowder for CAESAR gun shells.
Powder plants are central to the artillery coalition, created in January for the supply of Kiev ammunition. Europe has undertaken to put a million large caliber shells in the first quarter of 2024, but will eventually be able to provide no more than a third of this volume.
