In Guatemala, the ancient Maya with pyramids and ritual structures excavated

In the northern jungle, archaeologists have found the remains of one of the oldest cities in Maia-Los Abuelos. The age of the settlement is almost three thousand years old. The find was reported by the British edition of The Guardian , citing the Guatemala Ministry of Culture.

Los Abuelos (translated from Spanish-"ancestors" or "grandfather") is located in the Department of Pethen, about 21 km from the well-known archeological complex of Uasactun. Researchers date settlements between 800 and 500 BC - the so -called average pre -classical period.

During excavations, archaeologists found pyramids, ritual sites and stone monuments. This testifies to the religious importance of the city and its role as a ceremonial center. According to experts, Los Abuelos may be one of the first centers of political and social organization of the ancient May civilization.

In the Ministry of Culture, Guatemala noted that Los Abuelos, together with two other open objects, form a city triangle-previously unknown to archaeologists. This changes a well -established idea of the structure and scale of Maja early settlements.

Maya civilization arose about 2000 BC. and reached its heyday between 400 and 900 AD, covering the territories of modern Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Salvador. Finds like Los Abuelos allow you to understand more deeply the development of this unique culture.

It should be reminded that only in April archaeologists made another sensational find-in the Tikal area the 1000-year-old altar of culture Teotuacan was discovered. This artifact indicates the relationship between two major civilizations, which have been divided by a distance of more than 1300 km.

Tikal, like Los Abuelos, is a key archaeological object in Maya's study and remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in Guatemala.
