Moldova announced the date of parliamentary elections of 2025

Moldova Parliament has determined the date of the next elections to the legislature. According to the decision, the next parliamentary elections in the country will take place on September 28, 2025. This was reported by local media with reference to the broadcasting of the plenary session of the legislative body.

The decision was made during the voting, which was attended by Moldova MPs. On this date, 57 deputies representing a pro -government party voted on this date. This allowed the decision to be adopted, since such a number of votes provides the necessary parliamentary majority to make a decision. 32 deputies, including representatives of the opposition, abstained during the vote.

Among those who abstained were 25 deputies representing the left forces, two independent deputies, four unmarked parliamentarians, as well as one deputy from the ruling party who decided not to support their colleagues.

The last parliamentary elections in Moldova took place in July 2021. According to their results, representatives of two political parties and one election block were included in the legislature. According to the current legislation, the term of office of parliament is four years. Thus, the existing composition of the legislature completes its cadence in July 2025.

The Moldova Constitution stipulates that the elections of the new parliament should be held no later than 90 days after the authority of the current Parliament is completed. Therefore, the decision to vote at the end of September meets the requirements of electoral legislation and guarantees a smooth transition to a new stage of legislative formation.

The election campaign is expected to officially start in August 2025. By that time, political parties should complete the formation of electoral lists, hold congresses and submit documents to the CEC of Moldova. The parliamentary elections will determine the new balance of political forces in the country and mark the further vector of its domestic and foreign policy.
